The Photographer
My Story
I am Niannian — a portrait photographer obsessed with the space between breaths, the geometry of light on skin, and the stories eyes tell before lips move.
My work begins where most photographers stop: after the subject has forgotten the camera is there. That moment of forgetting is where the real photograph lives.
Each collection is a slow conversation — built over hours, sometimes days. Trust is the medium. Light is only the tool. What you see in these images is not performance. It is presence.
I work primarily with natural light and a single prime lens. No elaborate setups. No large crews. Just two people, one space, and whatever truth the moment decides to reveal.

Philosophy
"A landscape shows you a place. A portrait shows you a world."
I believe every person carries an entire universe within them — a specific way of holding their hands when nervous, a particular light that comes into their eyes when they speak about something they love. My job is simply to be patient enough to witness it, and precise enough to catch it.
These collections are not portfolios. They are archives of moments that actually happened — offered to you in full resolution, to keep.
The Process
01
Connection
Every shoot begins with conversation. I learn what makes you laugh, what makes you uncomfortable, what you're proud of.
02
Patience
I wait. I observe. I let the subject settle into themselves before I raise the camera. The best images arrive uninvited.
03
Precision
Post-processing is restrained — colour grading only, never heavy retouching. What you see is what was there.
